If you use a PC Firewall like pathetic Nortons and think it a good idea to switch off browser referrer info - which the server has already obtained anyway, or use a browser like NS which by default set-up stupidly uses cache totally as if off-line, then this and any server has the right to consider you a risk and you will experience problems because of lack of STANDARD HTTP conversation protocols. But of course as a webmaster on a network you should already know that!! ...and appreciate CGI software which reacts that way to your visitors.

January 2006 vrsn 2.2"b" ...added extra 'new entry' filtering.

**Users of v2.2 will only need to obtain current .zip and replace (FTP upload overwrite as ASCII Text) the "addform2.pl" file to update.

I.E. Various input checking assistance given against all-uppercase "SHOUTING", some medications and ringtones link spammming, http link and [URL]/[IMG] BBCode attempts, plus a few other bits.

February 2008 same vrsn ...minor but useful addition

I.E. Added simple "*" wildcard option for email addresses in the "rejects" records. One only needs to obtain current .zip and replace (FTP upload overwrite as ASCII Text) the "vizbook.cgi" and "editform.pl" files to update.

VizBookplus is a very popular versatile free-to-use-as-is-only guestbook list style Unix cgi script written for Perl 5 requiring Sendmail. There are numerous readily changed options you can use to constantly alter the appearance of the list and keep the interest of repeat visitors. This is not just a basic guest-book program.

• Appears similar to traditional guest books; and NOT just another a forum!!

• Primary design concept was for inexperienced webmasters
Once installed one of VizBook's main strengths is that it is designed for considerable dynamic changes to appearance via admin pages. Not requiring complex "templates", even inexperienced webmasters can readily change the colours, table width, fonts, backgrounds, and many other options via a web browser.

2002: 3 weeks ago I didn't know what a script was. After d/l and receiving every error one could imagine from a form to email script it was time to move on to our own guestbook. After being intimidated by the information I found here I opted to try some "free" scripts. Well more errors, and very little in the way of help files. I had seen the area on your site where you install your scripts onto sites and thought at the worst I could always just pay you to get this script working.

The help files on their own are well worth the small donation I am making as not only did the script work without a single problem (ok one problem I forgot my admin password) but the files directed me to a huge security problem I had within the directory of my site. I just can't say enough good things about this guestbook package it is complete, and the help files make it very easy to install. Thanks, and please keep up the good work. R K, Ca. • Advanced webmasters
extended control is possible by accessing html page components also via admin windows - copy/edit/paste/save. Even readme notes for placing the book list in complex table designs matching the rest of your site are included.

A Benchmark program since '98, VizBook along with Lars Ellingsen's program have set the standards by which several amateurs are recently trying to match - late 2001.

For "kiddies" visiting this page, so called "smilies" are not supported!

**Ron Woolley was first and has since '98 used a time option in all publicly available programs (via a common file) which allows your host to move to another leased space shared server loft even without your knowledge WITHOUT interfering with a programs time stamping, which you can set to your local time just once no matter where your site is located. You can even change hosts anywhere on the globe and simply move your files to the new server without worrying about forgetting time stamp changes!!

**VizBook still uses efficient server resource friendly flat file data files, so it
will avoid any licensing problems which may arise from the mySQL sellout (2010).

Yet another interim upgrade has been made to v2.0 supporting the programs popularity.

With time so limited by other projects, most of the following NEW options have NOT been added to the readme help page AND/OR as options in the Admin pages for browser control of same (latter will be a considerable task and will probably wait for one other enhancement yet to be added to v2+).

• Webmaster can now delete entries direct from the html pages.
• Webmaster can now edit entries direct from the html pages.
• The main (latest entries) html page can be refreshed from the list page to display latest entries OR rebuild after direct deletions. (VizBook creates the main page as a "live" html document which can be indexed - other pages are generated when requested - via links).
• A simple but logically needed page number reference has been added to the search results listings.
• The input field labels can now be "hidden" from the list display layout (if/when the "users pictures" option is switched off).
• The main list and the new entries form can now be set to display centred OR html default (left).
• New entry "Comments" can be saved and displayed with/as paragraphs or the preferred no-paragraphs format.
• The date time format can be displayed in 12 or 24 hour format.
• Webmaster can now rename ALL input field labels.
• Webmaster can now set a line wrap width value of the "comments" text in the e-mail sent to the webmaster.
• Fixed the problem (bug) where the drop menu "Other" text box could not be disabled via admin by setting a box width of "0" (could only be done by manually changing the config file value).
• PLUS a number of mostly minor aesthetic changes to list display and admin pages.
A "VERSION2_2b.txt" text file is included explaining the new additions.

Webmasters for clubs and organisations will find uses for VizBook other than as just a general guest book style list.

NT USERS may be interested! note We do not support NT.
However you may be interested in the following if you want to open up access to the better of many available Unix programs:
• I just tried the 'Sendmail" Indigostar version you recomended and it worked perfectly. As best I can tell your scripts are running perfectly on my Windows NT system. Input options can be switched off, or selected received inputs kept off the list. Visitors elect to allow access to their e-mail address even if it is a "required" input.... and addresses are "accessed" via but NOT included in the main list page (no "hobeldygook" text disguising).

Requires two HTMLDocs directories with write permissions - by default or forced:
The default page is a "live" html directory page (regenerated when ever a new entry is added)... YOUR search engine meta tags etc can be included in the main list page (admin edited <head> text file) along with styles and javascript scripts, AND "onload" events can even be added to the generated <body....> tag if needed for your page header design. All other list pages after the "maximum number to view" is reached, are generated on call from the records db text file. On a few observed sites 10000-15000 entries are handled efficiently - no knowledge of higher numbers!!

VizBook can also enable/disable the simple inclusion of "moderated" visitors portraits if they wish to send them to you OR upload direct from their PC.... professionally handled, not just messy layout destroying random kiddy images!

First with unique redisplay of input form - with visitors input - when errors are detected.

Most noteable of many additions/changes to v2.0 were:
• Search Option,
• Moderated option.
• Visitor Picture upload direct from PC option - requires CGI.pm.
• Nine program auxilliary files can be ediited via admin.

The VizBook administrators promo mail-list export option which can be directed to a mail lists directory, has been improved and is now fully compatible with the latest "E-Lists", "ListMerge" and "ennyForms" programs "Subscribe/Un-Subscribe/Mail Merging options - see seperate program pages.

The export database option was also improved in v2.2.

As the below sample book shows, VizBook can quite easily be displayed within your own surrounding table cells. Simple notes about doing so included.

The many variables are contained in one 'require' file, but other than path/site variables, all can be left as default until the Admin script is up and running.. All critical file writing is protected by Unix 'file locking'. VizBook also comes with TWO detailed read-me htm pages, plus background and divider images to get you started - even a colour chart image from my tutorials for html newbies!

Because VizBook cgi uses a flat-file database file, it would not be too difficult to add some contents of a previous guest book - if you wish to upgrade to Vizbook. Comments about doing this are included in the readme.htm file, plus a temp work file is included. If you have another programs text db and want it converted contact Ron via the feedback form. We may be able to help - all you have to send AFTER first contacting us is the db text file or if in another format export it preferably as a text .csv file from which a conversion should be possible.

• All Ron Woolley's admin supported programs have ALWAYS required double (two) passwords for access and editing (if you do not appreciate why, find it bothersome, and don't care that you may often allow other sites to discover your single passwords to admin applications editing... we even discover same occassionally via our own version of LogCount... then please do not complain!)

 Use LnkinLite for auto-reponse e-mail...  Promo Tracking 
• Don't just add links to your mail-outs! - you can easily generate and include promo links (counted) in the saved VizBook e-mail auto-response texts.
• If using the VizBook "addresses to mail list" export option and "Listmerge" to bulk mail-out to E-Lists lists (new window samples), then by also creating named links via the LnkinLite program the link code is generated suitable for including it in the ListMerge saved merge mailing texts for each list (or any other similar PC / Browser mail merging program).
• You can then have a "response check" by counting the response success rate for any number of return or promo links included in auto-responses or mail-outs - see what works, what needs changing next time, etc.
Because it is a simple separate program LnkinLite can be used for other external/internal link counting too!

All programs available here at dtp-aus.com receive regular reviews and upgrades. They are not just created and forgotten as happens with some programs.

NOTE: Some new options noted above recently added are manually preset in the config file before installing and not yet managed via admin - admin controlled next version.
• View First Admin sample : view administration page - New Window.
  **The first admin page is compact and is also a dynamic preview page showing general appearence changes as you edit and save them.
• View Second Admin sample : view administration page - New Window.
  **Also compact the second admin page includes access to advanced page site matching changes of key html elements.
 • SAMPLE VizBook : try it now, add an entry to the list! - several options switched off for obvious reasons. The next upgrade will easily replace the current retaining current entries.

The minimum input viewed on the new entry form are name, address, comment. A full compliment of options can be realised by looking at the option switches on the first admin page sample. Extensive additions are being added to the next upgrade.

These methods have kept VizBook one of the webs most popular traditional style guestbook programs for several years and proudly was invited to be installed by the authors at several NY USA September 11 commemorative sites.

With three Unix Perl programs there are two configuration 'require' files, plus header, e-mail text, footer, banners, and program 'require' files to install as well as two dummy index pages with redirect and a webmasters access page, two installation utility programs, plus free starter images and a "safe colour" reference image are included - one of the most complete free-to-use-as-is programs to assist webmasters.

• TWO extensive readme help pages are supplied. Self appointed experts - perhaps correctly so - will find a section just outlining files and dir structure.

NOTE: These scripts are created as working programs for webmasters, and not the common "play with and learn" free scripts found on some sites. If you are affronted by this, then please use someone else's programs.
 

 
  All programs include utilities to check Unix perl version and Sendmail, plus create and chmod directories and files ready for FTP upload of originals - works on most sites.
